TRICK OR TREAT!

Today I’m sharing photos of the Halloween party that I helped my friend pull together this past weekend.

It was a casual, carnival-style family celebration held outside on an extraordinarily beautiful fall afternoon.

The party featured a food truck

A maze and obstacle course…

A petite pumpkin patch and craft table for the little sprites (ghost lollipop anyone?)…

And Little Red Riding Hood in the DJ booth.

The decor for the party was relaxed and uncomplicated — with lots of mums and pumpkins,

punctuated by jolts of orange and black…

as well as by spooky elements — such as the oversized bats in the tree:

And one very creepy butler!

The food offerings were in keeping with the Halloween theme.  The “Cowabunga Truck” served up “Haunted Hamburgers & Wicked Weiners,”

burgers

with “Devilish Donuts” (AKA cider donuts) for dessert.

Given the outdoor setting and family friendly format, we decided to stick to paper and plastic serving pieces (personalized, natch!).

The bar was stocked with beer, wine and water:

as well as “PG”

cider

and “R” rated versions of apple cider.

I love Halloween parties because a little bit always goes a long way when it comes to festive trimmings!

My favorite part of the party was a “Spooky Walk” for the little ones that took place at dusk.  All of the kids lined up for a “loot” bag,

and were then shepherded through the backyard where tricks and treats lurked at every turn.  A creepy guy peering out from the shed…

A “lava pit” that could only be crossed via a rope swing, the “Snow White Witch” tempting with her forbidden apples…

The Grim Reaper himself…

and an impressive graveyard.

Fortunately, everyone made it through the gauntlet in tact and with some candy in their bags to boot!  Here’s to a fun, special and safe Halloween for you and yours.

xo,

Cath

ps:  One lovely idea for fall/holiday celebrations:  The hostess asked guests to bring coats, hats and mittens for a Family Centers collection and placed a box discreetly near the entrance to the party.
