SAFARI SO GOOD

Today I am sharing snaps from my daughter’s recent birthday party.  She is an animal lover and requested that “Animal Embassy” pay a visit to the party — which meant that I could have a little fun setting the scene for a safari soirée.  Since (as a a general rule) I don’t like to host reptiles or birds of prey in my home…

we opted to host the affair at a nearby Country Club.

The club’s ballroom sees little use during the week and provided plenty of breathing room for all of the party animals.  After the girls enjoyed visiting with and learning about a number of interesting “Animal Ambassadors”…

They carefully washed their hands and made their way over to their seats for an early dinner of grilled cheese, mini hot dogs, french fries and fresh fruit.  Conveniently, there were several large planters in the room that I asked to have arranged around the tables so that the girls would feel like they were in the jungle.

The planters also made for perfect perches for the faux parrots and toucans that I had on hand from “Buffett Bash” this summer.  It’s always nice when you can recycle party props!

I covered the tables with cheetah print linens…

added rented bamboo chairs with coral cushions and set the tables with a variety of colorful plates from Anthropologie.  Most were melamine plates — splashed with an image of a parrot,

while a few featured hand painted scenes of flora and fauna.

I found the orange and white striped napkins at the Juliska Tent Sale and the wooden napkin rings came from Amazon.com (not THE Amazon!).

Because it’s always fun to be fancy, I had place cards printed up for all of the little guests…

Following dinner, the girls had a ball taking a whack at the piñata…

and tucking into the lovely chocolate/chocolate cake that Sweet Lisa’s made for the occasion.

Riding a sugar high, the little guests made their way over to the favor table…

Some of the girls were so excited to receive the nightgowns that they changed into them immediately — modeling their sleep masks and posing for pictures with friends.  Safari sleepwear chic for the seven year old set!
