Earlier this year, my washing machine went into a downward spiral (believe what they say about how much soap you should add to each load!). Fortunately, I knew that it was about time for a new washer and dryer and I viewed my appliance’s demise as an opportunity to make some proverbial lemonade. And so begins the story of how my small but functional laundry room went from blah…
As soon as my repair man delivered the news that my old washer was not worth saving, my first call was to my decorator to ask her to bring over some fun wallpaper ideas! She loves making small spaces special and immediately drew up a game plan. Time was of the essence because the washer was on its last legs and I only had a short window where I could get the old machines out, get the room papered and have the new appliances delivered. Oh the pressure! After we had agreed on Cole & Son’s Palm Jungle wallpaper…
She had me paint the trim & cabinets in a high gloss blue-gray…
With oversized vintage hardware.
The finishing touch would be a whimsical beaded chandelier…
And, of course, chic detergent!
As for the new washer/dryer (details, details!) I decided to go with Electrolux. I have to share that the funniest part about the laundry room makeover was the outcome of a small social experiment that I conducted on the side: How long would it take my husband to notice the change? Drum role…it was over a week until he discovered the new wallpaper. Perhaps our now cheerful utility room will tempt him to do a little more washing and folding?
A huge THANK YOU to my very talented friend, Trisha Estill, who is a professional photographer and who took all of the beautiful “AFTER” images for me. I’ll leave you with a few more of her lovely shots and some snaps from Pinterest of more laundry room inspiration.
