The iconic rock band U2 is bringing their latest tour to New York City this weekend — perfect timing to share photos of a 40th birthday party that featured an awesome U2 tribute band!
I loved planning this party with a friend who was very clear about what she wanted for her husband’s 40th: great food, lots of quality time with close friends and family and a band that could do his all-time favorite band -U2- some justice. The result was an unforgettable evening:
That began with cocktails on their inviting patio…
Complete with cocktail napkins bearing the patio’s nickname
That served as a beacon of light as the night wore on.
Artful hors d’oeuvres courtesy of Chef Jerwin:
Which segued into a lavish dinner buffet, featuring: Balthazar Salad, grilled skirt steak with chimichurri sauce, bamboo wrapped Chilean sea bass, grilled assorted vegetables and forbidden rice.
Guests made their plates and found their way to a seat on the lawn:
Succulents on the tables were masculine and minimal by design and were intended to be a riff on U2’s record breaking album, The Joshua Tree.
The ceramic pots and candle holders are from West Elm.
More succulents and driftwood on the buffet table:
Ikat napkins in blue and orange tied up with twine for a jolt of color and pattern.
We used the same ikat to trim out the drink and dinner menus:
Hanging lanterns in the trees:
Following a few heartfelt toasts, guests were enjoying passed desserts such as these mini S’mores when they received the biggest surprise of the night…
U2 cover band – Unforgettable Fire- burst onto the front porch (which doubled as the stage for the evening), belting out “Where the Streets Have No Name.”
You have to admit, the lead singer is a pretty good Bono look alike. Lead singer of Unforgettable Fire:
The really McCoy:
Glow sticks and glow in the dark bracelets added to the concert-style feel as the band plowed through the best of the best of U2. At one point the Greenwich Police made a little inquiry into the noise level but they left soon thereafter with the comment: “They sound awesome!!!”
The night capped off with a fun little cake for the birthday boy — an avid cyclist.
I loved how personal this party was. The hostess chose everything with her husband in mind and guests clearly enjoyed being a part of such a thoughtful celebration…And, I think everyone left even bigger U2 fans. Cheers to those of you who are headed to one of their concerts. Seeing these pictures makes me wish I was!
