I am RAWTHER excited to share some photos of a little project that I have been working on over the past few weeks. My friends in the Junior League of Greenwich asked me to decorate a Christmas tree for The Enchanted Forest — a spectacular holiday celebration that kicks off on Friday and features a boutique, special performances, breakfast with Santa and -of course- “Gingerbread Village” & a forest of beautifully decorated trees (all available for purchase, natch!!!). I opted to decorate a four foot tree with a little girl in mind. Since I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE New York City at Christmas, my tree is a tribute to Kay Thompson’s, Eloise — the precocious little girl who calls the Plaza Hotel home.
I have been to the Eloise tea room and gift shop several times with my daughter and we always enjoy spending a few stolen moments cocooned in the over-the-top fun and glamor of pink and white cabana stripes and cheerful artwork featuring little Eloise. The gift shop is where I stocked up on ornaments for my “Ode to Eloise!” tree…
…which wound up looking like this!
Taking it from the top, Eloise reigns supreme with a sparkly, pink oversized bow:
…And is joined by her sidekicks, Weenie:
…and her pet turtle, Skiperdee.
The tree also includes some of Eloise’s favorite accessories…like sparkly sunglasses
her signature Mary Janes,
…and a Plaza Hotel room key card, of course!
Rounding out the decor are pearls, macaroons (perfect for tea time!), a sparkly “6” for this sassy six year old
and some sweet snaps from Eloise’s photo albums.
Under the tree is a fun and feminine skirt trimmed with grosgrain bows and embroidered with “Eloise.”
Finally, the tree just wouldn’t be complete without a few prezzies underneath. As such, I included Eloise’s eponymous book, a luxe Plaza hand towel
…and a hat box filled with some treasures from the gift shop!
This project was a complete labor of love. I fully embrace Oprah’s mantra: “Love is in the details!” and I had so much fun fashioning all of the mini picture frames and props into ornaments.
This was my first foray into “theme trees” and I would highly recommend it! In fact, I so enjoyed decorating this tree that I made another one just like it for my resident six year old — who is not a “city child” but who IS an Eloise fan. If you are an Eloise afficionado and can’t squeeze in an overnight at the “Eloise Suite” at the Plaza decorated by Betsey Johnson…
…then get thee to The Enchanted Forest at the Hyatt in Old Greenwich this weekend to bid on the Eloise tree!!! There promises to be a wide array of spectacular creations available for purchase and all of the proceeds from the event benefit the Junior League of Greenwich and the fantastic work that they do. With this great cause in mind, let Eloise’s words be your guide for the weekend: “Charge it, please!”
