I love January. In the first few weeks of the year we can sketch out some fabulous possibilities on the blank canvas in front of us. That is…until February knocks on our doors and “the year” is officially under way — a string of days, weeks and months flying by at a dizzying rate. Before January comes to a close, I am putting a stake in the ground and declaring my list of obsessions, inspirations and “must do’s” for 2015. Tally ho!
First off, let’s bare it all! Why have I gone this long without a “naked cake?” That’s right…N-A-K-E-D. As in (gasp!) sans frosting. There is no need to be heading down the aisle to order up one of these revealing creations…
Trimmed out with fruit…
or dripping with caramel…
these tantalizing treats are perfect for any celebration. And, they are certainly proof positive that -if you’ve got it- flaunt it!
Speaking of sweet ideas, I am officially obsessed with “Bon Puf.”
“Seriously?” you ask. What’s new about cotton candy?
Only EVERYTHING if it’s organic and hand crafted and can be had in innovative flavors like “Mango Chili,” “Chai Tea,” “Salted Caramel” and “Sparkle Puf” (edible glitter, natch).
But hold onto your horses, unless you live in the Golden State the darling little Bon Puf cart won’t be paying a visit to your next backyard bash anytime soon. At the moment, this outpost of cotton candy nirvana only exists in Los Angeles — which gives me hope that it’s simply a matter of time before it makes its way to some super secret, extra fabulous Brooklyn farmer’s market. Stay tuned!
As for my interior design cravings for 2015?…Me-ow! More animal print, please!
Make it extra decadent in velvet and a dreamy shade of blue as seen on the pillows on this sumptuous sofa by Nick Olsen.
And, please give me lots of vintage…like this fabulous chair and table combo courtesy of Jeffrey Bilhuber.
or this interesting desk and chair pairing in a young boy’s room done by Steven Gambrel.
Ooh, and I’d love a restful blue bedroom with plenty of personality…
and, of course, fabulous linens…
I mean, REALLY fabulous linens.
I’d also love a few fearless rooms with gorgeous pattern on pattern. Like Tory’s Hamptons living room:
And, the latest House Beautiful cover story has already made my year: Skirted tables are back.
What a relief! Sign me up for one!
Before we know it, summer will be just around the corner and I will be SO ready for a vay-cay. This year we have deciced to “Go West!”…
and are headed to picturesque Montana. I can’t wait to get out to Big Sky Country and I promise to do some reporting from the field.
Summer will also mean that it’s time to get the outdoor space in order. Thankfully, Mark Sikes’ super chic Hollywood Hills patio provides the perfect inspiration. Love those checked pillows!
Catching an outdoor movie in a sweet setting is also on my “to do” list during the summer months.
And, I am already looking forward to summer entertaining. I would love to delight my guests with a bevy of tempting beverages…
a killer sangria…
and an effortlessly elegant table setting.
Speaking of entertaining, I plan to push my limits in the kitchen this year. I want to make something absurdly difficult and involved…like a Mille Feuille Crêpes Cake…
the metaphor for Carrie Bradshaw’s epic gown in Sex & the City…
and an epic epicurean delight demanding singular focus and impressive follow through.
At last, once I have indulged in my decadent creation, I will promptly sign up for an energizing and inspiring cleanse led by my friends at AaHa Restart.
You can read about their awesome program and sign up for one of their transformational “restarts” through their newly launched website. After all, it’s never too late to revisit those New Year’s resolutions. Cheers to a fabulous year!
