Hello from the other side. Nice to meet you, 2016! I, for one, am dreaming of hitting the ground running in some fresh new kicks like these bad boys. Sigh…
I love a new year and all of the promise it holds. Nothing is better than a blank sheet of paper in early January. In fact, after I cleared out all of the Christmas decor, I decided that this was the perfect arrangement for our kitchen table for the first week of the year:
Colored pencils and a thick stack of computer paper — endless possibility! The new year brings a newly reclaimed space for me. My fabulous designer is helping me reimagine the kids’ former playroom…
(with its ho-hum fireplace surround)
into a cheerful living room that the whole family can enjoy:
I’ll post more pictures once the rest of the furniture arrives, but we’re all loving the fresh new space in the mean time.
I’ve also added some fun new notepads to my growing “collection” in honor of the new year:
I love them all but I have to say that this message is really speaking to me right now:
Let’s slow down for a minute, shall we? Take the pace down a notch and really savor the moment — especially when it comes to mealtime with family and friends. I am starting with breakfast:
I dragged out my slow cooker and am poised to try some version of Gwyneth’s recipe for slow cooker oats. I can’t wait to wake up to the scent of cinnamon and maple — courtesy of oatmeal that has been simmering all night at a deliciously glacial pace. I’m on it. Next I’ll conquer snack time.
I love this gorgeous presentation of simple snacks prepped by one of my favorite foodies. It practically begs for lingering. And Tea time?
You can hardly argue for rushing when the hostess (in this case, Tory Burch!) has pulled out a tea set this gorgeous. Finally, I’m spicing up the setting for even simple family dinners. New to my arsenal are these West Coast chic placemats that are keeping everyone at the table just a teeny tiny bit longer.
Another one of my inspirations for the new year is the ultra talented Eddie Ross.
Eddie is the East Coast editor for Better Homes & Gardens, a style guru and author of Modern Mix
…an absolutely fabulous coffee table book! I adore it and flip through it often. Eddie completely nails the concept of “doing more with less” — as my dear friend so often urges. Witness: the gorgeous birthday cake he whipped up for his mother-in-law by decking it out with roses from her garden:
The enchanting luncheon table he set with quirky ceramic swans and fresh-cut lilac:
and the New Year’s Eve dinner party he pulled together in his apartment…
using a bed sheet as a tablecloth!
As they say, “It’s all in the mix.” I admire Eddie’s resourcefulness and fearless creativity. #goals!
Whatever you’re working on in 2016, I hope you’re:
No doubt you already are. Cheers to an amazing year!
