ASPEN PEAK

My BFFs of Flag Day fame set such a gorgeous table for their family Christmas celebration that I have to share it with you!  The inspiration for this stunning scene is “Christmas in Aspen.”  I love this look -not only for its sheer beauty and simplicity- but also because it has staying power well into the New Year — long after the last of the tinsel and lights have been stored away.

This inviting table was set in Greenwich, Connecticut, but it instantly transports you to a ski chalet nestled above picturesque Aspen with its interesting textures, rich florals and subtle hints of sheen.  The mix of evergreens and natural accents is at once timeless — as seen in Carolyne Roehm’s former Aspen apartment…

as it is current, striking a similar note to the table that Aerin Lauder imagined for a New Year’s Day luncheon at her family’s estate on Long Island.  Featured in the January/February issue of Veranda, Aerin’s table also draws on an earthy color palette and natural elements.

…Including evergreens and pinecones carefully arranged atop her new woodland inspired china and chargers for Lenox.  Fabric for the tablecloth is “Hither” from Aerin’s debut line for Lee Jofa.

Metallic antlers and accent bowls at the bar are filled with with pine cones and finished with thoughtful details such as monogrammed linen cocktail napkins.

Combining evergreens, pine cones and berries with winter white or green florals (as seen in the photos above) is a great way to transition out of the holidays and into cozy winter entertaining.  I also love how Carolyne Roehm made rustic horn accents look instantly fresh with an unexpected addition of a crisp, punchy tablecloth and vibrant flower arrangements.

Finally, Ashely Whittaker set a similarly stunning and singular table by pairing burlap and a buffalo check runner with antlers and dahlias arranged casually in birch wrapped vases.

If you don’t happen to have any hunting trophies of your own lying around you can achieve this look by mixing evergreens with your favorite natural accents and mercury glass.  I’m also including links to some great sources for antlers  — so that you too can reach the Alpine peak of chic!
